Adhesive Types
| Acrylics:Acrylic
Adhesives bond minimally prepared or unprepared surfaces. They
offer excellent adhesion to unprepared metals, ceramic magnets and
plastics. Viscosities range from paste to liquid. Set times
range from 2 to 35 minutes. Full cure in about 2 hours at room
temperature. |
Epoxies:Epoxy
Adhesives create superior bonds in rubber, SMC, plastics and
metals. Their load bearing properties are equal to, or exceed,
many of the substrates that they bond. Cure time of 24 hours may
be accelerated with heat. |
| Urethanes:
Urethane Adhesives
provide strong bonds with minimal surface preparation for high
performance thermosets and thermoplastics. They offer primerless
adhesion for SMC and prepared metals, rubber and fiber reinforced
plastics. Various cure times available. |
Cyanoacrylates:Cyanoacrylates
are ideal for production situations requiring instant bonds and
immediate handling strength. They produce very strong bonds in
rubber, metals and plastics. Setting times range from 5 to 130
seconds. |
| Hot
Melts: Hot
Melt Adhesives are thermoplastic compounds or polymers that are solid at
room temperature, liquefy upon heating, and resolidify with cooling to
create a bond. Hot melts create almost instant bonds in a wide
variety of materials. |
Contact
Cements: These
adhesives acquire their name because they create instant bonds on
contact with itself. Adhesive is applied to both surfaces, let
dry, and then pressed together to create an instant bond. Contact
adhesives make good bonds in most materials but are not structural in
strength. |
| Anaerobics:
Anaerobics are
specialty adhesives designed to cure on metals in the absence of
oxygen. They are primarily used to anchor threaded joints and
shafts against breaking free due to vibration. They can eliminate
the need for lock washers and press fitted metal joints. |
UV
Curables: These
are adhesives that cure instantly when exposed to ultraviolet
light. They are ideal for bonding fiber optics and other clear
materials. They could be used whenever a substrate is transparent. |
| Emulsion (White
Glues): Emulsion
adhesives are water based adhesives made of polyvinyl acetate combined
with resins to produce very strong bonding. Cure is by evaporation
of the water. Adhesive sets in 30 minutes and full cures in 24
hours. Adhesive is ideal for bonding wood or other porous
materials. |

| Sealants:
Sealants provide
strong, flexible seals in maintenance, maring and industrial
applications. Sealants are made from a variety of materials,
including: silicones, acrylics, urethanes, butyl and polysulfides.
Silicones are also used for potting and mold making. |

262 Permanent Grade
 A
permanent, high strength product that is applied to fasteners 3/8"
to 1" (10 to 27 mm) in size. Localized heating and hand tools are
required to separate parts. Solvents will not weaken the adhesive
bond.
Applications: All fasteners that must withstand heavy shock, vibration,
or extreme environmental or chemical conditions.
